Re: How does everyone do their dual amp setup?
I'm not a big fan of pedals or effects. I use an ABY pedal to switch between amps. I have a foot switch for each of amps to change between channels on each amp. Any effects pedals are assigned to an individual amp and in the signal chain between the ABY and the amp or in the effects loop of the part...

Have to love the G4s. Mine is still working and has the MOTU card in it, so I still use it for basic tracks even though it is 15 years old.

Re: OT: Finally got a sub for my "mixing" setup :D
I mix using near field monitors, then I run the mix through a pair of JBL Cabarets (two 15"s and a 15" horn) to make sure the bass is balanced, then I listen to the mix in the car. I would use the subs to check the bass after the rest of the mixing is done.

Re: Just promised my girlfriend no new gear for a year
There are two kinds of girlfriends. The first wants you to quit the band so you can spend more time with her. The second kind wants you to quit the bank and sell your gear.
Then there are our wives who love us and feel the need to keep us from going too far.
Nine months is commendable.

Agree with LPL. Cranked the RV50 MKI through the 212 cab a week ago and my ears are still bleeding. It is a great cab. It shakes the room and is VERY directional. Do not stand directly in front of it. Don't worry, with a 100W head and this cab, you well be both heard and felt.

Re: Rockerverb Tone: 50 Watt VS. 100 Watt, etc.
I got my RV 50 MKI because of the sound on the clean channel as the power tubes began to saturate. To get the same sound with the 100W the volume needed would have the neighbors calling the police. An attenuator may avoid this. I also did not see me playing in venues where 50 watts would not be enou...

Was listening to some Ghost in a Jar (Neil's stuff) the other day. I have one of his amps, but have been remiss in recording it. A new project. It is great to hear he is doing well.

Re: Direct recording sounds thin
You have to look at every step in the signal chain. I have a Tech 21 Millenium 10 that has an XLR direct out that worked great. Too bad they don't make them anymore. Tech 21knows how to do this and make the best bass DI out there. That is easy, but doesn't always fit the bill. Two to three microphon...

Re: Songwriting on guitar - Tips and advice
One approach is to start with a riff or an interesting chord progression and flesh out what vocals and bass part will go with it. The other approach is to have the vocal first and figure out what will back them up. Another is to jam on an idea and see if anything good comes out. For the record two c...

Lease them out. The speakers get used, you retain ownership.
Cost of living is up 2.5 times since 1978, but there is wear and tear, but also a decreased supply of the cabinets that will impact the value of them.

Re: Psychodelic
I liked the vibe, but would agree that a bass line and/or bass counterpoint (think Jack Bruce) would have added much. As far the setting the delays, good audio engineers are taught to have the delay settings sync with the song tempo. There are charts (and formulas) to help you figure that out. What ...

Agree with connecting the output and input jacks. If there is noise, it is the tube/valve.
